The Future is coming

Back in the day you could build a website with a fixed width, test it in a few browsers and view it on a desktop computer. I went to the Future of Web Design conference in London last week and the future is nothing like the past. But then we already knew that.

Stephanie Rieger gave a talk about the Emerging Global Web and how e-commerce in China is already lightyears ahead of us. Everybody has smartphones and QR codes give a direct link to make buying easier.

Her best example of combining web applications and e-commerce was of Kuwaiti businesses. They use Instagram to sell their products. In the spirit of slap a price tag on something, take a picture and sell it. Fancy buying a sheep? (The sheep must have been sold, because the Instagram account is no longer live).
